Show and Tell #4 The Figure

By Eric Hovermale

The movement described by the shifting light and flow of the sheer fabric is what draws the viewer into this piece. The artist intended to express the human spirit in this piece, and I think he succeeded. The piece gives me a sense of freedom while the movement of the fabric causes a sense of mystery. I think a similar feeling could have been achieved was the figure clothed, but the photographers ethical decision to shoot nudes furthers the feeling of freedom the subject is experience and that transfers unto the viewer.

Photographer unknown

Though this photo is full of nude figures, it is the eyes of the center figure that draws the viewer in. The photo is overexposed but still connotes a dark meaning, while the subject matter seems playful. Despite the many naked females, I think this photo was taken ethically and used nudity tastefully.
